On a melancholy Monday morning, I meandered onto my Monitoring application in SAP BI4. Much to my mortification, my monitoring metrics were missing! Mon Dieu!
Alright, that’s about all of the alliteration I can stand for one blog post. But seriously, this happened, and I’m going to share with you how to fix it. I logged into a production BI4 system, 2-node cluster on Windows 2008 R2, and noticed that in the Monitoring Dashboard, under Metrics>Servers that I had all of the metrics I would expect for my servers on the node I installed first, but on the second node, there were only three metrics and none of the really good operating system metrics. Here’s how it looked:
Brace yourself for what I’m about to say. Seriously. Have a seat, fasten a seatbelt if your office chair comes equipped. The fix for this is super-easy. I know, right? Here’s what you need to do. The metrics are missing on the second node because the cluster doesn’t know where to look for the SAP OS Collector. This is a little tiny bit of Solution Manager that gets plunked down with each BI4 installer. So you have to go into the Applications section of the CMC, and open up the Monitoring Application. About halfway down, check the box next to “Enable host metrics” and provide a path to the SAPOSCOL binary. It should be in a location similar to this INSTALLDIR\SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0\win64_x64\scripts. Go out on Windows Explorer and find the file on your filesystem, then just copy the path and paste it here in the CMC. Here’s what it should look like:
After you make your changes, click “Save & Close” and then you’ll have to restart any APS that is running a Monitoring service. Then go back and check your dashboard again, and all of your metrics are there for you to use! YAY!
I told you this one was easy. Happy Monitoring!
